After veteran news photographer/writer Tom Price visited Russia in the late 1990s and witnessed Calvary Chapel missionaries’ extensive mission work throughout Eastern Europe , he felt the Lord calling him to begin a publication that would highlight the missionary work of Calvary Chapels around the world.

An ink-jet version of the proposed magazine was presented to Pastor Chuck Smith of CC Costa Mesa at the East Coast Pastors Conference in 1999.

The next morning, Pastor Chuck told Tom that he heartily approved of the magazine and wondered when the first issue would be printed. Chuck offered to ask Pastor Joe Focht of CC Philadelphia to help raise seed money from the bigger churches for the first edition’s printing. Chuck shook Tom’s hand, told him to keep him informed, and walked away.

In shock, Tom stood in the breakfast line wondering how he would publish a magazine. A few moments later, he was casually introduced to an associate pastor from Rochester , NY , who also ran a printing company. Several months later, the vision of CC Missions Magazine became a reality.

Now—nine years and 35 issues later—it has been amazing to report on what the Lord has done in the Calvary Chapel family. Using photographs and stories, the magazine has impacted the world in the name of Jesus. As a result, many have been encouraged to go on mission trips, become full-time missionaries, or to serve through prayer.

With the magazine’s five-person staff based out of a small Calvary Chapel in Virginia , the Lord provides in various ways to print and ship more than 42,000 magazines each quarter. Sending churches sponsor missionary photographers; church bulk orders provide most of the costs; approved ministries advertise. Several churches support the ministry monthly.

Co-laboring with Calvary Chapel Magazine

Churches or individuals can partner with CC magazine.

•Calvary Chapel pastors can make this tool available to their flocks by ordering in bulk or by encouraging their fellowship to subscribe. CC Costa Mesa orders 6,000 magazines to give to their fellowship. At the senior pastors conference, Chuck encouraged other fellowships to order as well. By God’s grace, several churches have.

•Churches may consider supporting the work financially, sharing story ideas with us, or taking out a ministry ad—an effective way to highlight your ministry while blessing another.
